What is Sound Healing?
image

Sound healing can be thought of as the therapeutic use of sound and music for healing. More specifically, it embraces five broad areas of activity:

  1. Vocal Expression: Toning, Singing, Chanting, Laughing;
  2. Using Instruments: Crystal bowls, drums, gongs, Tibetan bowls, tuning forks and other musical instruments;
  3. Sound Healing Therapy: where a person receives a sound healing treatment from a sound healer;
  4. Self Healing: using sound healing exercises for self-healing;
  5. Music: the use of music to relax, reduce pain or assist before surgery.
What are the benefits?

Sound healing offers the possibility of a drug-free way of treating pain and illness, is simple to use and has no harmful side effects. It works on the principle that the body is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies and that illness or dis-ease is caused by disharmony within the body, mind and emotions. Sound healing helps to bring the body, mind and emotions back into harmony with our soul or spirit.

"One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes." - Dr. Mitchell Gaynor

What happens in a treatment?

For a sound healing session you simply lie fully clothed on a treatment couch, after which the sound healer will use their voice to tone and sound into your body, with the intention of bringing you into a state of harmony and health. There will be alternating periods of silence and tuning forks and certain other instruments such as Tibetan bowls may also be used. Most people experience a sound healing treatment as deeply relaxing.

With regard to 'toning' - which is simply the elongation of vowel sounds... "Toning is practical, neither weird nor esoteric. It's just good, healthy home-grown vibration. It need not be either haunting or mystical, instead being basic and fundamental. It serves as a foundation for language, emotions, music and energy." - Don Campbell

What my clients say

"Thank you so much for my introduction to sound healing. I have had a wonderful week and feel that I have passed through a major threshold in my life, with all sorts of opportunities opening up for me. I have even written my first children's story - quite out of the blue!"   -   Mrs S. F., Hertford

"I have been feeling more positive and confident since starting sound healing, with a new mind-set that 'wonderful things are happening'. I have also not been worrying so much about my children, accepting the ongoing difficulties as an 'interlude'."   -   Mrs J. A., Welwyn

"I really enjoyed the tuning forks, the journey of the tones and the 'breathing' sounds during my sound therapy session. I felt very nurtured throughout with a pervading sense that all the sounds were exactly what was needed and just right. Many many thanks."   -   Mrs K. S., Hitchin

"Thank you for my three memorable sound healing treatments. The sounds you made connected me to healing images in my mind's eye that I would otherwise not have experienced. One, like a soft lullaby sung by a mother's voice from long ago times, seemed to connect me to all mothers the world over, down through the ages. We focussed our sessions for me upon the word 'abundance' and I've now taken up folk dancing as part of this process . A-bun-dance indeed!"   -   Ms A. N. , Hertford.

"There will come a time when a diseased condition will not be described as it is today by physicians and psychologists, but it will be spoken of in musical terms, as one would speak of a piano that was out of tune." - Rudolf Steiner (1861 - 1925)
